Summer is one of the most exciting and eventful times of the year. Pool parties, barbecues, and nights on the town are just a few of the activities where you may want to dress up and have some fun with your accessories.

Summer is a great time to experiment with your opal jewellery and show off some of your favourite pieces. Need some inspiration? Here are my tips for how to style your opal jewellery all season long.

1. Try Different Trends

Summer is all about trying new things! Don't be afraid to switch up your usual style by introducing trendier opal jewellery such as midi and pinky rings into your repertoire.

Mixing metals is also very in style this season. Pair yellow and white gold for a cool contrast, or do silver and rose gold for a modern and elegant look.

2. Layer and Stack

With the hotter temperatures, summer jewellery tends to be lighter and more fine, making it the perfect time of the year to layer and stack your favourite opal rings, pendants, and bracelets.

For rings, try a wishbone as the base layer of your stack, as its "V" shape fits perfectly with a variety of other styles.

For pendants and bracelets, go for opals that have similar shapes and colours, but don't feel like they have to totally match! Play around with texture and size for a stack that looks cohesive but still has a unique vibe.

3. Go for Light and Ocean Tones

Summer fashion tends to be airy and beachy. Linen and cotton in light and neutral colours are the best way to keep cool, especially in the sweltering Aussie heat. These fabrics and colours pair beautifully with the pastel hues found in crystal and light opal, such as lavender, moss green and sky blue.

But for those who prefer bolder, brighter flashes of colour, wear a piece of the beach all summer long with ocean hued opals that display deep blue, neon green, and aquamarine play-of-colour. These tones also perfectly match with any summer wardrobe and feel very evocative of the season.

4. Act Natural

Most of our time in summer is spent outside enjoying and exploring nature. This makes it the perfect time of the year to wear larger, earthier stye pieces.

For opal, this could mean deviating from more "classic" jewellery to something like an unset boulder opal on a leather cord, or a unique Yowah nut pendant.

The boldness of these types of opals make them a great conversation starter. Layer multiple boulder, matrix, and Yowah nut pendants in free-flowing shapes for a fun, relaxed look. These are the perfect pieces to pair with a boho aesthetic for a day up at the coast.

5. Have Fun!

Summer is for having fun! My top tip is to experiment with interesting accessories, like adding an opal brooch or an opal tie pin to a crisp white shirt for some unexpected pops of colour.

Wear your opals as many ways as possible all season long! The possibilities are endless.
